  TOUR FACTS:
  • The Rhythm Nation Tour was Janet's first ever concert tour and was in support of her 1989 album Rhythm Nation 1814.
  • It became the biggest and most successful debut tour by any music artist in history, grossing $28.1 million in the U.S. and nearly $45 million worldwide.
  • It is estimated that over two million people attended the show worldwide.
  • The tour was performed on a five-story two-level stage of solid aluminum.
  • Beginning in March of 1990, the Rhythm Nation Tour ran a full nine months and performed 107 shows.
  • The opening act throughout the tour on all dates was also the tour's musical director, Chuckii Booker.
  • Rehearsals for the tour began in Los Angeles, California, and then moved to Pensacola, Florida for two weeks before the show began. A surprise rehearsal concert was held in Pensacola on February 27, 1990 and was not announced until one day prior. Tickets went on sale the day of the show, and all 7,600 tickets sold out within three hours, while another 1,000 tickets were given to charity.
  • At the beginning of the tour, a real black panther appeared on stage during the song "Black Cat." The panther was eventually removed from the show after the first several performances because of the protests of animal rights groups and also because it urinated on the stage several times during the show.
  • A live music video for "Black Cat" directed by Wayne Isham was filmed during the tour.
  • The tour has never been released commercially on home video or DVD, however the full May 18th concert at the Tokyo Dome was filmed in HD and aired on television in Japan.
  • During a 2008 interview with Larry King, Janet revealed for the first time that she wants to release both the Rhythm Nation Tour and the janet. Tour on DVD, however both tours still have not yet been released on home video.
