NOTES:
Damita Jo is the eighth studio album from Janet Jackson, released on March 30, 2004 by Virgin Records. Although Janet produced and co-wrote the majority of songs on the album once again with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, a number of other record producers also produced songs on the album, including Dallas Austin, Kanye West, Bobby Ross Avila, IZ, Scott Storch, BAG & Arnthor, Babyface, and Rockwilder.
The title of the album was taken from Janet's middle name, which is also Damita Jo.
The album reached #2 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. It is certified platinum by the RIAA, and has sold over one million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
It is the second album from Janet to receive a parental warning label due to its strong language and sexual content. A clean version of the album was simultaneously released that does not contain this label. In that version, the title of the song "Sexhibition" was renamed to "Exhibition" and several lyrics in that song were re-recorded using less explicit language. Also on the clean version of the album, the songs "Warmth" and "Moist" were completely omitted.
The Japanese version of the album contains the bonus songs "I'm Here" and "Put Your Hands On."
The album was released just one month after Janet's controversial performance at the Super Bowl XXXVIII halftime show, which had an effect on much of the handling of the album. It is the first time since 1986's Control that she did not take a new studio album on the road with a concert tour.
