Newscaster apologizes on air to Janet & Tyler Perry Newscaster Mark S. Allen of CW31's Good Day Sacramento apologized live on the air this morning to Janet and Tyler Perry for his numerous questions that he asked regarding the Super Bowl during their live interview with him last week.
"I'm in front of you now telling you that I was a jerk, and you can see by the thousands and thousands of e-mails right here and throughout the building, Tyler Perry and Janet Jackson fans have spoken. They're calling me on it and I'm glad they did," Allen said while sitting in front of a large box of printed e-mails. "To Tyler, to Janet, and to the fans who had to sit through that interview, I'm sorry for bringing up the question about the Super Bowl. I'm sorry about the relentless pursuit of the topic. It was rude, and in fact I was a jerk."
Allen said he received over 19,000 e-mails about the interview.
Janet explains why she did not tour this year In a radio interview last Friday on the nationally syndicated Tom Joyner Morning Show, Janet explained her reasons why she did not go on tour this year as she had previously announced.
She stated, "I was supposed to go on tour with the last album and what had happened, which most fans don't know, is that I got with the new label and they asked me if I would be willing to consider not going on tour and going back in the studio and doing a new album and then revisiting going on tour. So I said, 'OK,' and stopped doing the rehearsals, which is what I was doing while I was filming 'Why Did I Get Married?'"
Audio of the full interview, where Janet also discusses "Why Did I Get Married?," can be streamed online at Tom Joyner's official website under the files for October 12, 2007.

And speaking of venom, what they did to Janet was unacceptable. Janet, who was under no obligation at all to promote this movie, sat with me while I was doing a round of TV interviews. Half way through the three hours of sitting in the same spot she was attacked by a reporter on a Sacramento morning show who only wanted to talk about the Super Bowl incident.
Now, I made it perfectly clear before we went live on the air that I wasn't talking about the Super Bowl or Janet's family. We had less than 5 minuets so I wanted to keep it positive and focus on the movie. But he didn't want to keep it positive. I had to maintain my composure because we were live on the air. I didn't let her speak. I kept jumping in because it was just so unfair to her. I have not seen Justin Timberlake attacked like that. I wasn't going to let them do that to her. Believe me when I tell you--Janet worked so hard on this film. She deserved more respect from this man than that! We both did.
In the same message, Perry also discusses how he is upset that "Why Did I Get Married?" opened on around 2,000 screens. "Most of the movies of my counterparts open on at least 3,000 screens," he writes.
Perry also mentions that he tried buying tickets online to attend a regular showing of the film on Friday night, but every showing was sold out and he had to call the theater so they could let him in. He sat in the back of the theater and watched the audience's reaction to his film.
'Married' tops box office at No. 1 with $21.5 million over weekend "Why Did I Get Married?" debuted at No. 1 at the box office this weekend, taking in an estimated $21.5 million, according to estimates obtained by both the Associated Press and by Reuters.
Industry forecasters originally predicted an opening in the low- to mid-teen millions for the film, which debuted against other films this weekend starring Oscar winners George Clooney and Cate Blanchett ("Michael Clayton" and "Elizabeth: The Golden Age," respectively). "Married" ended up earning more than the total of both Clooney and Blanchett's films combined.
"This is the last time that anyone will underestimate Tyler Perry," Tom Ortenberg, president of distribution at the Lions Gate Entertainment Corp, told Reuters.
Ortenberg tells Reuters that the audience was 90 percent African-American and 65 percent female, which are similar numbers to Perry's previous films.
'Married' grosses $7.7 million in first day "Why Did I Get Married?" is estimated to have grossed $7.7 million on Friday, it's first day in theaters, according to BoxOfficeMojo.com.
The film, which opened on 2,011 screens, averaged an estimate of $3,829 per screen and came in first place for the night.

Duet with Maroon 5 to appear on Janet's new album Jermaine Dupri, while doing an interview to promote his new book, told MTV.com that Janet has recorded a duet with rock band Maroon 5 and it will appear on her new album:
Oct 12 2007 8:02 AM EDT Janet Jackson Has Teamed With Maroon 5 But Duet With Mariah Carey Hasn't Happened Yet, Jermaine Dupri Says 'I wouldn't want to do a song with [Mariah] and Janet and it don't live up to them being as big as they are,' hitmaker says.
By Shaheem Reid, with reporting by Brennan Williams, MTV.com
NEW YORK - Jermaine Dupri just released his autobiography, "Young, Rich, and Dangerous: The Making of a Music Mogul," and his Y'All Know What This Is ... the Hits collection drops October 23, but what has his girlfriend been up to? Well, the hitmaker said fans can expect to hear new Janet Jackson material sometime next year.
"Probably in February or March or the summer," JD said. "It's 45 percent done. [Singer/songwriter] The-Dream has a song on her album, [as does] Rodney Jerkins. It's gonna be a crazy album. It's a Janet record. I'm A&R-ing, and I'm probably going to be the [executive producer]. But I'm getting records she likes [and] pulling records from other people. She has a duet with Maroon 5. Just little things."
One huge thing people have been asking Dupri about is a potential duet between Janet and Mariah Carey, especially since they are now labelmates. (JD went so far as to promise a duet featuring the divas on Janet's last album, but it never materialized.) Nelly, for one, wanted to try and pull off the collaboration on his upcoming Brass Knuckles LP, but he couldn't come up with a good enough idea for the song.
"The thing about that is, I don't force an idea," Dupri explained. "It's a great idea if you can come up with the record. It has to be something that's organic. It can't be something we force just because the voices is together. I believe the last couple of records we saw where there are two big artists that came together and collaborated, they don't live up to be the record we want them to be. I was a little disappointed with the R. Kelly and Usher record ['Same Girl']. I thought the record should have been bigger than what it was. ... I wouldn't want to do a song with [Mariah] and Janet and it don't live up to them being as big as they are. ... But [the collaboration] is gonna surface one day. Something is gonna come up, and we gonna say, 'This is it.'"
JD accompanied Janet to the New York premiere of her new movie, Tyler Perry's "Why Did I Get Married?," earlier this week, and he says the couple could relate to parts of the film - especially the part where one person in the relationship is working too much.
"There are times she wants to be alone with me, and I have to pay attention to my Blackberry," he said.
He also beamed about her performance in the flick.
"She's got more parts than Tyler Perry [in the movie]," he said. "It's a Tyler Perry film, but she's telling what's happening from the start. It was good. But for me, with her and her acting, I'm not always psyched out because that's how we know her. We knew her from making movies and acting before the music. I know that's her first love, the acting."
Janet saves woman's weave from fire at In Touch party Last night at the 5th anniversary party for In Touch Magazine, Janet "spotted a girl whose hair was on fire and put it out," according to the website Stereohyped.

Janet talks to AP about new movie, album, book, and marriage The Associated Press has released the transcript of a short interview they did with Janet where she discussed the new movie, her upcoming book, her views on marriage, and her new album.
When discussing her new album, Janet said that there still may be a chance that Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis could end up on it:
Q: What's your new album like?
Jackson: It's still me. I'm still doing myself, really. The reason why I'm saying this is because as of right now, I'm not working with (longtime collaborators) Jimmy (Jam) and Terry (Lewis). And if we're really going to work together on this album, I don't know. I'm not quite sure. ... Hopefully we can and we'll get together and be able to do at least a couple of things together.

Photos of Janet from last night's 'Married' premiere in NYC Photos of Janet from last night's New York City premiere of "Why Did I Get Married?" and later at the We Own The Night after-party at The Bowery Hotel, which was sponsored by The Cinema Society of New York:
One of the excerpts posted on the site features Dupri discussing his relationship with Janet:
CHAPTER 12: WE BELONG TOGETHERgives readers a glimpse into the author's personal life, and his relationship with longtime love Janet Jackson.
Things have always been so easy between us. There was none of the usual pressure I felt with my girlfriends in the past. Like me, my girl was deep in the business from day one. Like me, her family was always involved. Like me, she was constantly traveling and working. She understands how your work can take you away. She does get jealous, but with her I'm not always on the defensive, trying to explain how it is.
It wasn't long after we got together on that dream vacation when I met her whole family. It was Thanksgiving weekend when they invited me down to L.A. for a gathering. They don't do Thanksgiving, but they get together for a big family dinner.
I was real nervous. When it's a girl with six brothers of course you're gonna be intimidated. I was thinking the worst and worried they would ask me all the hard questions of life. I knew they'd be real protective of the baby in the family. But they didn't grill me at all. They were just real gracious and nice, joking around with each other and saying, "Pass the biscuits please."
I couldn't get over how normal the whole family was. The Jacksons were just a regular black family with black people [stuff] going on! They play board games together. Jan's mom is even more competitive than I am. She can't stand to lose and she won't give it up to anyone. The kids all argue and tease each other like siblings do and throw down when it's time to eat. They tease me too. La Toya's always making fun of me and mimicking me on the phone. Jan finds it hilarious.
The Jacksons let me in with open arms. When they were all going through it over Michael's trial, I spoke up for them. I wanted to defend the family's honor. They're just nice, loving people who deserved better than getting raked over the coals in the media. I also did it because it was important for Janet. The trial was rough on her. She and Michael were always so close.
Getting together with Jan was the first time in my life I felt like I was with a woman who's also a friend and a partner. I feel like I can breathe around her. Now I have someone who is more than my equal and who I can bounce things off of. Jan will give me an intelligent answer. She's educated and she knows stuff.
Life with Jan is just real normal. When we hang out, we hang out at home. She's a homebody. We don't want to be out on the road all the time.

Janet talks about Britney, marriage, and more in new interview In a new interview with AOL Black Voices, Janet spoke of her opinion about the recent controversies surrounding Britney Spears:
"People are very quick to pass judgment on others but they never know what a person is going through and what makes them do certain things. So when people even ask me about Britney [Spears], I say 'Don't ask me, there are too many [assumptions] ... everyone is assuming and everyone is quick to pass judgment but no one really knows what this child is going through."
As reported heavily in the mainstream media, the former chart-topping superstar recently lost custody of her two young children -- following a series of events that include questionable parenting skills and catastrophic career choices.
"I can't even say that I've been there," Jackson said about the possibility that she can relate to Spears. "I don't know what she's going through. I don't have two kids. She's the oldest in her family, I'm the baby. I hear she doesn't really talk to her mother. I've never had that type of relationship with my mother. And I've always had my brothers and sisters. So I don't know what she's going through."
"The only thing we have in common," she concluded, "is that we're both female, we're both into music and we're both in the public eye and we've both been successful at it, and we both have our issues."
Janet also speaks about the new film, marriage, and her upcoming book about her weight struggles in the Black Voices interview.
Janet: Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis not yet involved in new album At a recent press conference to promote "Why Did I Get Married?," Janet confirmed that as of now Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis are not involved in her upcoming album that she is currently recording:
Janet, are you finished with your next album? What direction are you taking?
Janet Jackson: "No, I'm working on it. It'll be out probably first quarter of next year. I'm doing something, still being who I am, I'll never shy from that. I'm working with a few people. I'm working with Ne-Yo, I'm working with Jermaine, working with Rodney Jenkins…"
(Tyler Perry points at himself and everyone laughs)
Lamman Rucker: "They'll be doing a duet together."
Janet Jackson: "This is something different for me because normally it's myself, Jimmy [Jam] and Terry [Lewis] and always writing music and myself writing the melodies. This is a bit of a departure from [that]."
So Jimmy and Terry are not involved?
Janet Jackson: "As of now, no."
If Jam & Lewis don't produce any songs on the upcoming album, it will be Janet's first album since 1984's "Dream Street" that they did not produce any tracks on.

And if she and Dupri did decide to marry? Jackson would totally take his last name. Reasoned Jackson: "Of course I would. Isn't that crazy? It'd be JD and JD."
"I'm writing a book on my journey of weight loss and weight gain," she said. "[I'm] really coming from the soul with it, and what I was going through at different times in my life and what possibly brought it about for myself."
She also will include in the book what she did "nutrition-wise" to slim down "when she needed to," but warns, "It's different for everyone."
