In order to be nominated, television shows are required to submit one episode of their program and then the Emmy voters will judge the entire series based on that one episode alone. Producers typically try to pick what they believe is the best episode from the past season of their show in an attempt to get nominated and then ultimately win.
Janet herself cannot get nominated, but rather the Tyra Banks Show is using that particular episode for the consideration of the full series by the Emmy voters.
Nominations for this year's ceremony will be announced on June 15.
Update: Coincidentally, this episode of the Tyra Banks Show with Janet will be repeating tomorrow, June 1, according to the schedule on the show's official website. The show is syndicated - check your local listings for the time and channel it airs in your area.

Janet on cover of US Weekly Magazine Janet is on the cover of the new issue of US Weekly Magazine explaining how she's kept her weight off.
"I have a great support system to keep me on track... but I still don't like working out," Janet told the magazine. "It's hard for me. I have to push myself to want to do it."
"I have moments -- I crave chocolate, or just want to eat," she continued. "One thing that helps is getting my clothes altered to fit so I can tell when I gain or lose. I used to wear overalls all the time, and my mom said, 'Baby, don't do that or you won't know how much you lose.'"
"If I can do it, anybody can do it," she said. "Eating light and clean helps, but you really shouldn't think of it as a diet, otherwise you feel like you're depriving yourself. If you crave something, you should have a little bit of it, then let it go and move on. Do a little exercise so you're back on track."
"It's about control and it's a balanced diet. Of course I have cheat days! Especially with my dancers, who love to eat. And after a hard day of work, they want to unwind and grab a drink, and alcohol is not good for my diet with all the extra calories. I try to have a glass of wine, but then somebody comes with a lemon drop and it's so good. You feel like you're drinking cough syrup or candy, and before you know it, the next day comes and you feel it. I make up for it with a few more reps when I lift weights."

Dupri: Janet in talks to sign with Island Def Jam Jermaine Dupri is telling MTV.com that Janet is in negotiations with Island Def Jam to sign a new record contract with the label.
Jermaine Dupri Says Janet Will Switch Labels, Be On 'Rush Hour 3' LP Dupri, head of urban music at Island Def Jam, says his girlfriend is in talks to join the label.
By Shaheem Reid, with reporting by Yasmine Richard
In February, Island Def Jam Chairman L.A. Reid brought Jermaine Dupri over to Island to be president of urban music, and now it looks as if JD's girlfriend, Janet Jackson, is not too far behind. The longtime Virgin Records artist has been in talks to switch label homes.
"Definitely Janet will end up at Island," Dupri told MTV News recently. "That's without a doubt. L.A. always wanted to sign her regardless [of whether] I was there or not. I don't know where that deal is -- I left that in the hands of L.A. and Janet's people -- but more than likely, he'll get what he wants."
Whether or not the deal is completed, Jackson will put out a song this summer. Dupri just finished a deal for his company to release the "Rush Hour 3" soundtrack (the first two soundtracks were released on Island during its old regime).
"Janet will have one of the first singles off the album," he said. "Bow Wow will be on the soundtrack. A couple usual suspects should pop up on the soundtrack, but I want it to be something unique [to] incorporate the new [Island Def Jam] family I'm with. I'mma see what Luda's doing, what Jay is doing. I'mma see if I can get some records from people."
Dupri's position at Island follows a less-than-eventful run as president of urban music at Virgin. He blames a lack of corporate support for his departure.
"With me being the president, I bring back the urban side of Island so that Island and Def Jam can be two separate record companies," he explained. "Jay-Z's at Def Jam, I'm at Island. L.A. sits in the middle and makes sure we do what we supposed to do as well as pump us up with ideas. I'm a musician, and I'm 100 percent into making music. I'm behind the music, and I like being around people that's behind the music. Virgin Records is not behind the music. They weren't when I was there, and I still don't think they are behind the music. If you're gonna be in the music business, you should be around people who are about the music."
A spokesperson for Virgin didn't respond to requests for comment by press time about Jackson's status with the label or Dupri's departure.
Other than the "Rush Hour" soundtrack, Dupri already has a full plate of releases coming out of his company. He's producing an album of ballads for Jagged Edge and Mariah Carey is in the studio and is expected to put out an LP sometime this year, as is Dupri's new MC, Hot Dollar.
Tyler Perry talks about Janet's role in new movie Tyler Perry told U-Entertainment that Janet may potentially be involved in the soundtrack for the upcoming film that she also stars in, "Why Did I Get Married?"

Get ready for Janet Jackson as you've never seen her before. So says Tyler Perry, who has Jackson starring along with himself, songstress Jill Scott and Sharon Leal of "Dreamgirls" fame in his forthcoming "Why Did I Get Married?" feature.
"She's playing a college professor -- actually, an author and professor of psychology," Perry reports. He is quick to add that Jackson "absolutely" has the chops to pull off the part convincingly. "I can't wait for people to see her like this."
Perry is also high on fledgling thespian Scott, who is "like she's born to do this. Her acting is so natural, I was shocked. When this woman smiles, she lights up a room."
Ironically, there's no singing in the movie despite its powerhouse trio of singers. However, Perry's happy to note that they'll be involved in the soundtrack. He expects an October or November debut for the feature.
The playwright/actor/director/producer/best-selling author/force of nature has his "House of Payne" sitcom returning to the tube June 6 as a TBS offering. Perry's signature character, the beloved and dreaded Madea of "Diary of a Mad Black Woman," guest-stars on the first episode of the sitcom about a multigenerational family living under one roof. It must be nice to have such a built-in draw. "Yeah," laughs Perry. "It's about the only thing that would entice me into wearing that wig and dress again right now."
He's been working on both "House of Payne" and "Why Did I Get Married?" at the same time -- but with 34 episodes of the show and the feature now in the can, he is taking a week off.
"I'm actually leaving everything electronic behind no cell phone. I'll be forced to relax," he says. But then, he also says he'll use the time to work on his next novel.

Nelly wants to record song with Janet & Mariah Rapper Nelly, who is currently in the studio recording new music with producer Jermaine Dupri, is trying to get Dupri's help in convincing Janet and Mariah Carey to record a song with him, according to MTV.com.
"Nelly's got a crazy collaboration he's trying to put together, which is him, Janet and Mariah Carey all on one song," Dupri told MTV. "That's what he wants. If he could convince them to do it, it would be crazy. He wants Janet to rap a 16-bar verse, he wants Mariah to sing the hook and he's gonna do two verses. He has it all planned out. You ask him about it! This is what he wants; he's 100-percent deadlocked into it."
