Jam stated that the "wardrobe malfunction" wasn't a publicity stunt to boost sales of her new album. He said probably seven songs were still not done at the time of her February 1 Super Bowl appearance.

Janet mysteriously absent from MTV
Not only are many of Janet's fans asking why the superstar hasn't been played at all on MTV lately, but now the Associated Press is also asking that same question.

Currently, MTV has not aired the "I Want You" video, nor have they even mentioned on the network that Janet has a new album coming out tomorrow.

MTV Network spokesman Graham James told the AP that Janet's new video hasn't been played on the channel yet because it hadn't been submitted to MTV by Virgin Records.

The video, however, has been receiving airplay on BET and VH-1, both sister networks of Viacom-owned MTV.

"You can probably read between the lines with MTV. It's certainly being played at BET," Jimmy Jam told the AP. "I would guess that if MTV wanted to play it, they would, but this is just speculation on my part. It certainly could raise a few questions if you have an investigative mind."

Details on the clean version of 'Damita Jo'
The clean version of the "Damita Jo" album has several differences from the uncensored version:

- The songs "Moist" and "Warmth" are not on the clean version.
- The song "Sexhibition" was renamed to "Exhibition" and completely re-recorded. Instead of saying words such as "sexplosion" and "sexcapade" throughout the song, Janet simply says "explosion" and "escapade." Also, at the end of the song Janet only says "relax" instead of saying "relax, it's just sex."
- All of the swear words are cut out of any songs they appear in.

Jam says Janet didn't court controversy
Producer Jimmy Jam says that Janet did not cook up the Super Bowl breast exposure incident as a way to generate sales for her upcoming album, the Associated Press reports.

Jam says that on the night of the Super Bowl, there were still more than a half-dozen songs left to be completed for the "Damita Jo" album.

As the controversy swirled around the incident, Jam tells the Associated Press that Janet herself seemed unconcerned.

For example, on Grammy night, while most of the artists at the ceremony were asked about the incident, Janet was in the studio working on her album. Jam says if anything, she threw herself even more into her work on the album rather than become distracted over the outcry over her halftime "wardrobe malfunction."

Dallas Austin speaks out about Super Bowl, Grammys, 'Damita Jo'
Dallas Austin, producer of two songs on "Damita Jo" spoke to Access Hollywood recently concerning Janet's current affairs.

Defending the sexual content on "Damita Jo," Austin said, "She's not a kid. She's a grown woman and she should make women records."

Austin also said that Janet has been trying to put the Super Bowl incident behind her.

"I just remember her saying, 'Everybody's aiming at me but it's my thing that fell out. I'm the one embarrassed,'" he revealed.

"Now the perception has turned to the controversy. If these things had come out before all of the drama happened I think the people would have enjoyed it and said, 'Wow this is cool, these songs are jammin. But now it kind of makes everything look set up for her like it was influenced by that."

And as far as reports saying Janet decided not to attend the Grammys, Dallas said they were wrong.

"She said, 'I didn't deny [the invitation]. They kicked me off. I was getting my outfit ready. I thought I was going to the party. I was excited, I was ready and they told me I couldn't go,'" confirmed Dallas.

On the heels of her new top 40-aimed pop single, "Just a Little While," Janet Jackson embraces her urban fans with "I Want You." Co-produced by Kanye West - the current poster child for churning out crossover R&B/hip-hop hits - the retro-vibed song calls to mind the sparkly yet wistful soul of '60s-era girl groups. It also carries a contemporary reference. Its feel and girl-desires-boy theme are reminiscent of Alicia Keys' own crossover gem, "You Don't Know My Name," also ascribed to the prolific West. The opening drum downbeat immediately sets the tone. That beat smoothly propels the song, accompanied by swirling string crescendos that are the perfect backdrop for Jackson's breathy vocals. Not to take anything away from the festive, guitar-based "Just a Little While," but this song stands a much better chance of multiformat popularity. -GM

Janet discusses Super Bowl incident in new Ebony
The following article comes from the Associated Press:

Jackson Says Halftime Show Was Accident
AP | March 05, 2004

NEW YORK - Echoing her on-stage partner, Janet Jackson says her breast exposure during the Super Bowl halftime show was a "costume accident."

"It was not intentional. It was a costume accident," Jackson tells Ebony magazine for its April issue in her first interview since the now-infamous Feb. 1 performance.

"It was an accident," she says. "That was basically it."

Timberlake has said that when he reached for Jackson's top, exposing her right breast covered only in a sun-shaped nipple shield, it was a "wardrobe malfunction."

In the article, Jackson also discusses her boyfriend of the past year and a half, record producer Jermaine Dupri, about whom she's been reticent in the past.

"Things are great with us," the 37-year-old singer says. "I'm sorry, but I get so tickled when you say his name. It's so funny because I've never been in a relationship when my friends adore him and my family just loves him. It's a first me for me.

"But more importantly," she added, "I love him. Everything is great."

Jackson is headed back to network television on April 10 as the host and musical guest of "Saturday Night Live," NBC announced.
