More collaborations in the works
While it's not known if their work will make the final cut, Flyte Tyme is reporting that Jimmy and Terry are working at Platinum Sound in New York with R&B producer Precision on some track collaborations for Janet's new project.
Precision is best known for work with R. Kelly and the hit song "Request Line" by Black Eyed Peas featuring Macy Gray.
Platinum Sound is Wyclef Jean's newly built recording studio. |

Jimmy chats up Janet's new album
Jimmy Jam chatted it up with reporters at MTV.com recently and revealed that Janet's new project looks like it might not drop until the beginning of 2004.
"I anticipate that we will be working on the record for the next three to four months. Then we'll have a direction to finish it off. The record will be done by the end of the year and will probably come out next year. If we felt we had something strong enough as a single, I guess we could have a single out before the end of the year and the album at the beginning of the next year."
Coy as always, Jimmy avoided saying too much about the record, saying that so far they've been experimenting with house, ambient, and guitar-rich tracks. Producer 7 Aurelius, who has been whispered about as a guest on the project, says that Janet is in the midst of creating some "cutting edge, hard-hitting dance music," but has not been confirmed as a Producer.
As noted yesterday, Janet may also be sampling a bit of new wave electronic rock with assistance from DFA Records.
While nothing has been confirmed, it does look like the project is moving along. Look for Janet to bounce around the country over the summer, recording in Los Angeles, Miami, and Flyte Tyme's home studio in Minneapolis. |

Janet seeks new sounds for album
Janet looks to be venturing into the world of the newly tagged "Electroclash" sound, according to Spin Magazine.
"GIMME A BEAT! Thanks to producing brilliant underground singles for the Rapture and LCD Soundsystem, DFA Records has shown up on the radar of coolhunting superstar Janet Jackson, who approached DFA about a collaboration. "I picked up my phone, and it was Janet Jackson," producer/co-owner James Murphy says. "She'd heard the music and wanted something with a really simple beat." Although mildly shocked, Murphy's no snob: "Better Janet than a boring indie rock band!"
For a taste of this sound check out the song "Losing My Edge" by LCD Soundsystem. |

More pictures from the Derby
Janet and Jermaine Dupri wore similiarly styled outfits to the Barnstable-Brown Kentucky Derby party last Friday evening according to the Louisville Courier Journal.
"Jackson brought her boyfriend, record exec Jermaine Dupri, and what looked to be three bodyguards...Jackson, who dropped in around 11, was the last luminary to arrive. Unlike her older sister LaToya, who squeezed into a minidress about a half-size too small, Janet wore a black pantsuit with a black tam that made her famously fit silhouette virtually disappear into the dark surroundings. Maybe that was the idea. By 12:30 a.m., Jackson was slipping out the back gate with her entourage fore and aft, lest anyone get too good a look at the semi-reclusive superstar."
Janet also attened the Derby the next afternoon. |
