On April 26, 2002, FlyteTyme.com listed in their "upcoming projects" section, a new album by Janet set for 2002.

Janet's longtime producers Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis are owners of the Flyte Tyme Productions corporation.

Essence readers vote Janet Entertainer of the Year 
Readers from Essence Magazine have voted for Janet as the the first ever recipient of the Entertainer of the Year Award. Janet's long-time producers Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis will also be honored at the ceremony, scheduled to film on May 31st in Los Angeles.

The 2002 Essence Awards will air on Fox on June 6th.

Janet passes the crown to Aerosmith 
Janet, sporting darker hair and a new belly button piercing, paid special tribute to Aerosmith last night when she gave the opening speech at MTV's second mtvICON ceremony. Janet was crowned last year as MTV's first ever "icon". Aerosmith's ceremony will air on Wednesday, April 17th, at 9:00 P.M. EST on MTV.

While giving an interview with entertainment show Extra, Matthew McConaughey denied rumors that he and Janet are dating.

"We're just good friends," he said. "We met at the Grammys and we've traded music together. She has great tastes in music."

Janet signs PETA petition to stop animal cruelty 
Janet, along with several other celebrities, signed a PETA petition urging South Korean Prime Minister Kim Dae-Jung to prohibit the eating of cats and dogs, according to MTV.

The animal-rights organization is attempting to ensure that what are common household pets receive full protection from intentional cruelty and torture by "beating, hanging, electrocution, burning and boiling alive."
